What is PASS?

PASS connects students with the support that fits their situation, whether that's academic help, basic needs, or something in between. It is designed to help promote student success. Anyone can submit a PASS referral — students referring themselves or for someone they know, and staff or faculty referring a student they'd like to support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students can submit a PASS for themselves or for someone they know. Staff and faculty can also submit a PASS on behalf of a student.

A PASS referral can address a wide range of needs, including:

  • Mental health or disability services
  • Attendance or engaging with course content
  • Academic support and tutoring services
  • Financial aid support
  • Food or groceries
  • Transportation (gas, bike, taxi, bus, car repair)
  • Technology (hotspot, headphones, internet, connectivity)
  • Hygiene or household essentials
  • Housing or utilities
  • Documentation costs (ID, birth certificate, background check)
  • Books, supplies, or course materials
  • Emergency or extenuating circumstances
  • And more

If you're not sure whether your situation fits, you can still submit a PASS and select "I don't know" or "other."

  • If you're a student referring yourself: A staff member will reach out within 3 school days. If you don't respond, they'll follow up once more and send a check-in email.
  • If you're a student referring someone you know: A staff member will reach out to the student you referred. No further updates will be shared with you, in order to protect that student's privacy.
  • If you're staff or faculty: Your referral is submitted, then assigned to the appropriate staff member, who reaches out to the student. You'll receive a status update and notes within 5 school days.

Submit the referral anyway. The PASS team will figure out the right next step.

When you fill out the form, you'll be asked whether you've already submitted a PASS referral for this student this term. If you have, the form will then ask whether anything has changed or if there's new information to share.

  • If nothing has changed, you don't need to submit again. We are doing our best to support the student.
  • If something has changed, go ahead and submit. It will be reviewed as a follow-up to the existing referral.

No. It's understandable for this to feel intimidating if you're not familiar with PASS, but a referral simply means someone cares about your success and wants to help connect you with support.
