Classroom Technology Guides

Select your room setup below for step-by-step instructions on using Zoom, projectors, and interactive displays.

GUIDE: Zoom Room with Laptop ▶
STEP 1: Launch via Google Workspace

Always launch through the authenticated portal for host control:

  • Open your CGCC email or a Chrome tab.
  • Click the Google Waffle Grid (9 dots).
  • Select the Zoom app and sign in.
  • Go to Meetings tab
  • Find your scheduled meeting
  • Click Join (this starts the session)
Pro Tip: This ensures you are recognized as the Host automatically.
STEP 2: Audio Discipline (Prevent Echo)

CRITICAL: Do not join audio on your laptop!

  • When the prompt appears, click the "X" to close the audio window.
  • If a second box asks to continue without audio, click Continue.
Why? The Podium provides the sound. If your laptop mic is on, it will create a loud screeching echo.
STEP 3: Connect Hardware & Display

Connect your laptop to the room's physical display:

  1. Plug the HDMI cable from the podium/cart into your laptop.
  2. On the Zoom Room Tablet, swipe down and tap the Home Icon.
  3. Tap Local Presentation and select HDMI 1.
STEP 4: Join the Room to the Virtual Meeting

Finally, bring the room's camera and mic into the Zoom call:

  1. On the Zoom Room Tablet, tap the Join button.
  2. Enter the Meeting ID (found on your laptop's Zoom window).
  3. On your Laptop, go to the Participants list, find the "Room," click the three dots (...), and select Make Co-host.
Success: You are now the Host on your laptop (for sharing slides) and the Room is a Co-host (for audio and video).
GUIDE: Standard Classroom ( New Touch Panel System) ▶
STEP 1: Powering the System

Waking up the room is automated through the Touch Panel:

  • Touch and hold the green System On button in the center of the panel.
  • Note: This will automatically lower the projection screen.
  • Turn Projector on with Remote.
Pop-up on screen?
Tap the X in the top-right corner to close it.
(The System Off button may not be visible until the pop-up is closed.)

Tablet flickering?
First close any pop-up on the screen.
Then press the System Off button to reset,
or hold the Power button on the back of the tablet.
STEP 2: Choosing Your Device (PC vs. Laptop)

On the Touch Panel, select what you want to show to the class:

  • Lectern PC: Tap this to use the built-in computer in the podium cabinet.
  • Laptop (HDMI/USB-C): Tap this if you have plugged in your own device via the cable tether.
One-Cable Solution: If using USB-C, a single cable handles your video, laptop charging, and access to the room's professional camera.
STEP 3: Starting your Zoom Meeting

Launch your scheduled meeting in Zoom to begin your class:

  • Open Zoom on the Lectern PC (or your laptop)
  • Click the Meetings tab
  • Select your scheduled meeting
  • Click Join (or Start) to begin the session
STEP 4: Managing Audio and Cameras

This room features professional ceiling mics and dual cameras. Connect audio/video to your Zoom meeting.

  • Mics: In Zoom, set your microphone to Shure P300 for ceiling-based echo-canceling audio.
  • Camera Selection: In Zoom’s camera settings, you will see two camera options both labeled “AT-HDVS-CAM.” Selecting either option will toggle between the Presenter Cam (podium) and the Class Cam (audience). Switch between them until the desired view appears.
  • PTZ Controls: Use the Touch Panel arrows to Pan, Tilt, or Zoom the active camera.
STEP 5: Powering Down

When finished, please tap the System Off button in the top right corner. This preserves the projector bulb life and raises the screen.

GUIDE: Legacy Classroom (Touch Panel System) ▶
QUICK START: Powering the System
  1. Tap the main screen to activate
Note: The touch panel may be less sensitive—press firmly.
  2. On the next screen, select “No”.
Note: Some projectors may not respond to the automatic power-on command.
  3. Turn on the projector using the remote.
The remote is located on top of the podium or inside one of the drawers.
STEP 4: Select Your Source
  • Podium Computer: Ensure the computer is powered on (located inside the podium cabinet).
  • Laptop: Connect your device using the HDMI or VGA cable provided on the podium.
Operational Tips
  • Screen Height: Use the “Screen Up” and “Screen Down” buttons to adjust the projection screen height.
  • Pic Mute: This function freezes the displayed image—useful when you need to hide content temporarily.
  • Audio: Volume controls (Up, Down, Mute) are located on the right-hand side of the display.
Legacy Hardware: These systems require manual projector startup. If the remote is missing, please contact the Service Desk.
GUIDE: 75" Interactive Display Cart ▶
STEP 1: Powering the System

Ensure the cart is plugged into a wall outlet, then power on:

  • The Screen: Power button is located under the lower right-hand corner.
  • The Mini PC: Mounted behind the right-hand side of the screen. Press the power button on the unit.
Check Peripherals: Ensure wireless keyboard and mouse are set to ON.
STEP 2: Using the Touchscreen

The 75" display acts as a giant tablet. Use your finger or the Stylus (found in the magnetic holder on the side). Use Microsoft Whiteboard or Zoom Whiteboard to annotate over slides.

STEP 3: Logitech Camera & Zoom Audio

In Zoom, select Logitech MeetUp/Rally for the camera and Logitech System for the speaker/mic.

STEP 4: Connecting Your Own Laptop

Plug into the HDMI input on the right side of the screen; it will automatically switch to your laptop display.
