What is Basic Needs support?
Basic Needs at CGCC provides food access, one-on-one support, and connections to community resources for students. The Resource Navigator works with students individually to identify options and next steps based on their situation.
Services include:
- One-on-one meetings with the Resource Navigator
- Access to the Campus Food Pantry and Clothing Closet
- Referrals to local and statewide resources, including housing, utilities, and transportation
- Support with applications, paperwork, and eligibility requirements
- Campus resource fairs, events, and workshops throughout the year
To get started, complete the PASS form or contact the Resource Navigator directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you're in immediate danger, call 911 or a crisis line. Basic Needs supports ongoing needs, not emergencies in the moment.
Financial help comes through partner programs, each with its own eligibility rules. The Resource Navigator can help you understand what those programs require.
What's available can change. Funding, timing, program capacity, and other factors outside of our control all play a role. We can't guarantee a specific outcome, but we will spend time with you looking at what options exist.
No. You can come in for something small, like a snack or help with a form, or for something big. You don't have to wait for it to become a crisis to reach out.
Yes!
Your information is protected under FERPA and will remain confidential. If a referral to a community partner requires sharing your information, we will not do that without your permission. You will be asked to sign a Release of Information (ROI) form first, so you always know what is being shared and with whom.
Sí, nuestra navegadora de recursos habla español e inglés y también puede conectarte con servicios bilingües.
Yes. The Campus Pantry, referrals, and most of what Basic Needs offers do not ask about your immigration status. If an outside program does ask, we'll tell you before you apply.
No. Talking to Basic Needs does not go on your record or affect your financial aid.
No. To meet with the Resource Navigator, you don't need to show proof of anything or explain your situation in detail. If something is making school harder right now, that's enough reason to reach out. Some outside programs we refer you to may ask for proof of hardship as part of their own process, and if that comes up, we'll walk you through what's needed.
Yes. They can fill out the PASS form on your behalf. The Resource Navigator will then reach out to you directly, and you decide what happens next. Nothing moves forward without you.
That matters, and we're glad you're considering trying again. Things change on our end too. New resources come up, timing shifts, and what wasn't available before might be available now. You're welcome back, and you don't have to start over from scratch. Let the Resource Navigator know what happened before, so we can try a different approach this time.
No limit. Some students come in once for one specific thing. Others check in several times throughout the term. Both are completely normal, and you're always welcome back, no matter how many times you've reached out before.
