Transfer Credits and Credit for Prior Learning

Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) will accept transfer credits and work with students who have relevant life experiences that meet these standards.

Traditional Credit Standards

  • Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) accepts college-level credits earned at colleges and universities that are accredited by regional accrediting associations.
  • Grades of C (including C-) or better.
  • CGCC will evaluate Lower Division Collegiate (LDC) coursework.
  • P and S grades are only transferrable when the issuing institution defines the grade as C (including C-) or better.
  • Career Technical Education coursework may be transferred upon departmental approval.
  • Non-degree seeking students' prior coursework is transferred only when needed to satisfy CGCC standard prerequisites, as well as commonly used preparatory coursework in other subject areas (e.g. Biology).

How to Submit Transfer Credit

  1. Send transcripts from other institutions to:
    Columbia Gorge Community College

  2. Transfer credits will be evaluated once you have earned at least one credit.
  3. Only credits specific to your declared major will be evaluated.
  4. If you plan to graduate with a degree or certificate other than your declared major, please file a graduation petition.
  5. You will receive an e-mail in your MyCGCC inbox when transcripts have been evaluated.

Non-Traditional Credit

  • You must have an established transcript (one college credit) at CGCC.
  • A maximum of 45 credits of non-traditional credit (AP, CLEP and Military, non-accredited coursework) may be granted.
  • Non-traditional credit may not be used to establish CGCC's residency requirement.
  • Only those subject areas taught by CGCC will be considered.
  • Submit the Non-Traditional Credit form to student services along with supporting documents (course descriptions, curriculum outlines, syllabus, etc.).
  • For military credit, please submit a completed Military Credit Request form.

Life Experience Credit (Credit for Prior Learning)

In general, CGCC does not offer credit for life experience. There are some career/technical programs and lower division college academic departments that may offer a course challenge for specific courses.

Please contact student services to determine if the course is available for challenge.

Note: no more than 25% of credits applied toward a degree and/or certificate may be earned via the course challenge process.
