Campus fire offers reminder of a dry season
A brush fire swept across eight upland acres of The Dalles Campus on Sunday, August 6, but a rapid response by local and regional firefighters prevented the fire from spreading farther.
There were no injuries, and no buildings were damaged. After eight hours of hard work, a team from Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue, working alongside crews from the U.S. Forest Service and Dallesport Fire Department, quelled the eight-acre blaze. Crews worked the site again the following day on mop-up.
CGCC Facilities Director Jim Austin reminds everyone that severely dry conditions continue, and to please be extremely careful when venturing into non-irrigated areas of campus.
