Admissions and Placement Testing

New students seeking admission to Coastal Georgia Community College are required to take PLACEMENT TESTS called COMPASS. Contact the Testing Services at (912) 264-7220 for information.

Regents' Exams
|
The Regents' Exam assesses compentency in reading and writing of all students enrolled in undergraduate degree programs in the University System of Georgia.
Students Required to Take the Test:
► Transfer degree students who have 30 or more semester hours must take the Regents' Test this semester or will not be allowed to register for future semesters until the test is taken. (This requirement applies to all transfer degree students regardless of the institution to which they may be transferring.) Students who have less than 30 semester hours must complete English 1101 before being allowed to test.
► Students who have not passed either part of the test and who have 45 or more earned semester hours will be required to take the Regents Test review course(s) before being allowed to retake the exam.
► Career degree (Associate of Applied Science Degree) students no longer are required to take the test but are encouraged to do so, particularly if they may change to a transfer degree at a later date. (Note: Certain programs such as Nursing may require the Regents exam) Be sure to visit with your advisor and contact Testing Services for specific dates and times.

Exemption of Regents' Skills Courses
Students may exempt RGTR 0198 by scoring at or above specified scores on the following examinations:
* Regents' Reading Test exemption score: 61 * SAT-I Verbal exemption score: 510 * ACT Reading exemption score: 23 (SAT or ACT scores must be from a national administration. Scores from institutional SAT or residual ACT tests will not be acceptable for this purpose.)
Students may exempt RGTE 0199 by scoring at or above specified scores on the following examinations:
* Regents' Essay Test exemption score: 2 * College Board Advanced Placement (AP) English Language and Composition Exemption score: 3 * College Board Advanced Placement (AP) English Literature and Composition exemption score: 3 * International Baccalaureate (IB) higher-level English exemption score: 4 * SAT II English Writing exemption score: 650 * SAT reading score of 530 and above for students who earn an "A" in English 1101 or English 1102 * SAT reading score of 590 and above for students who earn a "B" in English 1101 or English 1102 * ACT English score 23 and above for students who earn an "A" in English 1101 or English 1102 * ACT English score 26 and above for students who earn a "B" in English 1101 or English 1102.

CLEP
|
CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) is a national standardized computer-based examination that allows students to obtain college credit for specific courses. Each 90 minute test consists of multiple choice questions. In some cases, an additional essay or oral exam is required. Who is eligible/Currently enrolled CGCC and Brunswick Center students are eligible to attmept credit by examination only once per course. Students who have been enrolled in a particular course may not take the exam for that course.
All tests are given on the 2nd and 3rd MONDAY of each month BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
A non-refundable registration fee of $8 must be paid to the Business Office no later than one week prior to the test date.
A valid picture ID, the registration fee receipt, and a check or money order payble to CLEP for $60 must be presented for admission to the test.
