Dr. Toda, President of Columbia Gorge Community College announced staff reductions in a college-wide message last week. In the announcement, the President wrote, "It is with a heavy heart I inform you that we have begun layoffs which will extend through June." The initial layoff included five college employees across multiple departments.
Columbia Gorge Community College is offering Basic Electricity for Maintenance Technicians beginning Monday, January 5, 2015, from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Fort Dalles Readiness Center Renewable Energy Technology classroom and labs.
Participants, volunteers and sponsors of Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation's 15th Annual Founder's Cup golf tournament helped raise approximately $18,000 for CGCC Foundation's permanent endowment. This endowment benefit, sponsored in part by Columbia State Bank and Caithness Shepherds Flat Wind Farm, was a special opportunity to raise funds that will be matched dollar for dollar by a federal grant.
There were 100 high school and middle school students from across the Columbia Gorge who competed in the 2014 Wind Challenge event on May 3, 2014, racing against the clock to build the strongest, fastest wind turbines. Google and the Columbia Gorge Community College sponsored the Wind Challenge Event as part of their work to bring hands-‐on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) opportunities to area students.
