Participants, volunteers and sponsors of Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation's 15th Annual Founder's Cup golf tournament helped raise approximately $18,000 for CGCC Foundation's permanent endowment. This endowment benefit, sponsored in part by Columbia State Bank and Caithness Shepherds Flat Wind Farm, was a special opportunity to raise funds that will be matched dollar for dollar by a federal grant.
Valley View Appliance and Food Services of America teams earned first place trophies in the tournament at Indian Creek Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 2. Valley View Appliance won the low gross category, and Food Services of America took home the low net prize. Papa Murphy's and Caithness Shepherds Flat Wind Farm won second place trophies, while teams Bob and Hire Electric won third place awards.
Dawn Justesen took home both the closest-to-the-pin and longest drive contests for women. Tom Ward won the longest drive contest for men, and Richard Stillwell landed the closest-to-the-pin prize. Sidney Rowe hit closest to the pizza box to win a Papa Murphy's pizza each month for one year. No one drove home the hole-in-one prize of a new car from C. H. Urness Motor Company.
Twenty-four teams participated in this year's tournament. In addition, the foundation raised more than $4,000 in donations through a general raffle that included 19 fabulous prizes donated by community members and local businesses as well as a wine raffle that included six cases of local, exceptional wine prizes.
