APPLYING FOR AID IS EASY!!!
There are many sources of financial aid available to students at CGCC. The majority of students that apply will qualify for some type of aid. You may receive assistance from one or more of the following sources: grants, scholarships, loans or college work-study. Applying for financial aid is not as difficult as most people think. Complete the following steps to determine what you will qualify for. If you have questions about any of the steps, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is important that you complete this application as early as you can to allow time for your application to be processed. Method #1—Complete the paper application and mail it to the processing center. Make sure that your application is complete and it is signed by you (and your parents, if applicable). Please list CGCC (school code—001558) as one of your six schools in Step Six of the FAFSA. Method #2—Complete your application electronically at FAFSA on the Web (www.fafsa.ed.gov/). Please list CGCC (school code—001558) as one of your six schools in Step Six of the FAFSA. Note: You (and your parents) must have a PIN to electronically “sign” your application. Otherwise, you will be required to print out a “signature page” to be signed and mailed to the processing center. You can request a PIN for yourself and/or your parents at www.pin.ed.gov/.
2. Review your Student Aid Report (SAR). You will receive a student aid report in the mail approximately 4-6 weeks after you mailed your application or 2 weeks after you submitted your application electronically. Review the “COMMENTS ABOUT YOUR INFORMATION” section on your student aid report. If you have any questions about the comments in this section of the student aid report, please contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-433-3243 or the CGCC Financial Aid Office at 912-264-7262. If you need to make any corrections to the student aid report, you can make them directly on the student aid report or the CGCC Financial Aid Office can make the corrections for you (with the necessary required documentation).
3. Verification. If you are selected for verification, the CGCC Financial Aid Office may request signed copies of the following documents: Verification Worksheet, Federal tax return, and W2 form(s). Note: Dependent students will also need to submit their parent’s tax returns and W2 forms. Independent students will need to submit their spouses (if applicable) tax returns and W2 forms. Also, since we are required to keep a copy of these documents for our records, we request that you submit copies and keep your originals. If you are unsure as to whether you are a Dependent or Independent student, or which documents that you need to submit, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
4. Once all of your required documents have been processed, you will receive an Award Letter notifying you of the type and amounts of aid that you are eligible for. If you do not receive an award letter, your aid is not processed and you will need to contact the Financial Aid Office to determine why you have not been awarded.
