Course Description

Examines visual art and architecture as a reflection of human interaction with the socio-political and physical environment. Focuses on viewing, analyzing and comparing many art forms in an historical context, and covers the Renaissance and Baroque periods, beginning about 1300 CE. Prerequisites: WR 115, RD 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes

Upon successful completion students should be able to:

  1. Appreciate art and architecture in general, and enjoy a life enriched by the exposure to and the understanding of personal and cultural achievement
  2. Recognize the ways in which the forms and ideas of Renaissance and Baroque art and architecture reflect and were shaped by their historical and cultural context
  3. Understand and value Renaissance and Baroque cultures in all-encompassing ways and recognize their persisting influence on our current cultural environment
