Securing Hazardous Materials

  • Make sure that all detergents, cleaning supplies, mouthwashes, medicines and other potential poisons are always kept inaccessible to children
  • Use child-proof latches on cabinets
  • Lock doors to rooms containing hazardous materials
  • Guns and ammunition must be stored separately and under lock and key
  • Place barriers to protect children from fireplaces, space heaters, wood stoves, stairways and other hazards
  • Have a working smoke detector on each floor and in any area where children nap
  • Poisonous plants must be kept out fo reach of children
  • All clear glass panels in doors must be clearly marked at child level
