80.B - Cellular Telephones
Board Policy Code: 80.B
The Board of Education recognizes that the use of cellular telephones is appropriate for the effective and efficient operation of the college and to help ensure safety and security of college property, staff and others while on college property or engaged in college-sponsored activities. To this end, the Board authorizes the president to establish a cell phone allowance (taxable benefit) for qualified positions or persons. Positions or persons with a recognized business and need for a cellular telephone who are not authorized to receive the allowance will be provided a college owned cellular telephone.
College-owned cellular telephones shall be used for authorized college business purposes. Personal use of College-owned equipment is prohibited except in emergency situations.
Use of cellular telephones in violation of Board policies, administrative regulations and/or state and federal laws will result in discipline up to and including dismissal and/or referral to law enforcement officials, as appropriate.
The president is directed to develop administrative regulations for the implementation of this policy, including a uniform and controlled system for identifying employee cellular telephone needs, monitoring use and reimbursement. Provisions may also be included for reimbursement of actual costs for occasional staff use of privately-owned cellular telephones for authorized college business.
